talk about the road!! it’s a safe space. we just like hearing your thoughts / wisdom.
Oh boy! This will be long. Buckle in, or skip this. That's okay too.
For those who may not know, @sccccccram is referring to controversial plans for a tunnel through the Stonehenge landscape. To be clear the tunnel will not damage Stonehenge or affect the land immediately around it where tourists usually visit. The argument for the tunnel or one of them at least is that the busy road that goes by the site and is visible from the monument would be diverted to the tunnel and would no longer be visible to visitors (eventually, that is, once the construction is finished and the enormous scar heals).Maybe the real reasons some people want the tunnel are that:
1. travelers on the now crowded road that at times barely crawls past Stonehenge would theoretically get where they're going faster once the tunnel is in. And of course some of those people are wealthy donors to the Tory Party who have second (or third or fourth) homes in Cornwall.
and 2. huge amounts of money will be made by the companies that build the tunnel and anyone they're pleased with, like politicians who helped make it happen. In the interest of full disclosure some archaeologists are in favour of the tunnel too. (Including people I respect like Mike Pitts, former editor of British Archaeology Magazine and author of some books on Stonehenge, and Tess Machling, a brilliant thinker and archaeologist, I especially recommend her work on gold torcs!) It isn't clear why in many cases. Some are just tired of people treating Stonehenge as more special than other sites. Some just don't seem to like it that people other than themselves like pagans, partiers, and megalith lovers feel they have an interest in what archaeologists see as a site that is their domain. Some are disdainful about people who call Stonehenge sacred, for example.Other archaeologists and historians, though, oppose the tunnel. Prominent Stonehenge archaeologist and author Michael Parker Pearson is one of them, as is historian and author Tom Holland. A major reason for this is that huge areas of the Stonehenge World Heritage site will be bulldozed and destroyed if it is built. Rescue archaeology would of course be done but that is never ideal and it does sometimes happen that in the interest of speed and economy archaeologists may come under pressure to hurry things along. And no one knows what else may be in the land now.But of course archaeology isn't the only consideration. Other people all over the world love, revere, identify with, and care for Stonehenge. It shows up in many movies, television shows, songs, and stories, and as replicas in theme parks, mini golf corses, planetariums, cemeteries, gardens, and other kinds of sites around the world because it has so much meaning for so many people. Some people see it as a sacred place—the whole World Heritage Site, which includes many burial mounds of different types, an ancient avenue, and a cursus which is a huge earthwork of unknown significance. It is a landscape of prehistory and wonder. Those people genuinely feel that the digging of a tunnel through the chalk that underlies that landscape would be a desecration, even a rape of that sacred landscape.Others, more like myself, may not have a faith that holds the site sacred but we have a more poetic outlook. Walking on that landscape as it is now, even with the A303 full of cars cutting through it, is still dreamy in a way. The land underfoot was certainly important to the ancient people who built and altered Stonehenge and hauled all those heavy stones there. During the digging and building of the tunnel there will be noise, there will be lights, it will be an industrial atmosphere. Certainly tourists who visit the Stonehenge landscape during that will have a disappointing experience. And afterward, what then? The tunnel advocates like to say it will be better once soil is placed on top of the enormous concrete bunker that will be the tunnel. It will be more peaceful they say. But we will always know the tunnel is there, won't we? We won't be walking over the peaceful chalk landscape the ancients revered. We'll be walking over what is basically an industrial site with cars and trucks running beneath our feet. That's a huge qualitative difference to the experience of anyone who likes to walk and imagine the past. And that's not even mentioning the entrances and exits of the tunnel. It's hard to believe they won't affect things, sounds-wise and lights-wise.
(Tumblr won’t let me post more text but I’m not finished)

This Is Us has been building up to the moment of Jack's death. We had been given hints: a burned down house, the kids being seventeen. But oh lord when they showed that cooker catching fire, I could only watch it all in horror. The following sequence, right before the moment Jack emerges with the dog, is so devastating. I'm watching the TV with tears rolling down my cheeks. The Pearsons watch on, so does the viewer. But Jack comes out! And he's mostly unscathed and we're able to breathe again. Unfortunately, we get to know that that's the night he died.
I wondered, 'But how could he? Everything was alright, wasn't it?' And it's revealed how. It is every bit as sad and traumatic for the characters as it was hinted to be. I'm not going to focus on that right now because that scene speaks for itself.
What I'm going to point out is the side story with Randall and Tess. Randall, throughout the years, has tried to honour his father's memory by continuing the Superbowl Sunday tradition and embodying the kind of dad his own dad was to him. It is truly heartwarming to see the reflections of Jack in him. In all the Big Three, in fact. Jack isn't some ghost haunting the narrative. He is the story.
I loved a couple of things the most: a shot of Tess' wall with Kevin's painting hung on it, and the fact that Randall's kindness (and in turn Jack's) echoes through Tess as it is revealed that as a grown up, she helps out kids in need. That was beautiful, cathartic, a gift from the makers of the show to us viewers.

Things that I wish had been properly explored in the final season of This Is Us, instead of focusing on Kate and Toby's endless fights, Kate becoming a saint who could do no wrong, Kevin being jealous over Madison's boyfriend, and Deja and Malik's teenage soap opera:
- Kevin experiencing some professional success, both in acting or with Big Three Homes, instead of having his acting career being written off and hearing secondhand about the nonprofit doing well
- Kevin and Madison successfully co-parenting with the six-year-old version of Madison and Nicky, because those kids were adorable. Also more of Kevin with the preteen kids.
- Sophie and Kevin being successfully married, and what their life was like as Kevin becomes more of a caretaker to both Rebecca and Miguel and his own brood
- Kevin, Madison, Sophie, Elijah, and all their kids becoming a sort of postmodern tribe that has to do everything together, apparently. The possibilities here are endless and we barely got a glimpse of them!
- Madison having another child with Elijah, how Kevin feels about that, and he and Sophie not having any children themselves
- Sophie hated LA. Why? Explaaaaaain, guys.
- Toby and his endgame wife and how she gets along with his family
- Toby experiencing some professional success. He gave up his dream for Kate and she got everything she wanted, and then they split up anyway. I think he deserved a bit more of what he wanted, too.
- Cassidy and Kevin's friendship, and how she got to a better place mentally
- Nicky and his adorable wife who we did not see nearly enough of
- More of Tess and Annie as adults. Some version of Annie should get a storyline.
- Toby and Kate as grandparents
- More of Adult Hailee
- Franny and Nicky as adults, since they are the only grandkids we did not see grown up
- Some explanation of how Jack kept Nicky a secret and what Nicky was doing after he came home.
- I'd like to see more of Rebecca and Jack in the afterlife, but what we got was actually perfect.
I know the season was structured the way it was in order to do the solo episodes and give Alexandra Breckenridge time to show up. But they didn't do nearly enough with Sophie once they had her, even though that's when Kevin's life got really interesting and they spent way too much time in the contemporary timeline. Kevin and Madison were fighting over where the twins spent Thanksgiving for about four episodes. Come on, guys. Speed it up!
Overall, I'm not unsatisfied about how things ended up, and obviously I loved Jack and Rebecca reuniting Titanic-style. But we could have had more.
Also, I had lots of issues with the show over the last two or three years....but I miss the Pearsons.

V-Day or D-Day
Hey bitches, it's me, your neighborhood gossip coming out of the woodwork to make sure everyone knows what the people of this town are truly up to.
Love is in the air in New Kingston or that's at least that they want you to think. All I smell is lust and bad decisions.
Valentine's Weekend started with a Galentine's brunch hosted by Mercy O'Connor at Weaver Monroe's mansion. The french toast was soggy, mimosa's were mostly orange juice and the attendees were lackluster. Mercy ended the soiree by handing out pink jackets sewed by Andy Pearson. I'm pretty sure my grandma sewed something similiar for my first day of third grade but who am I to judge? Oh right because I'm me.
Sadie Clark was initiated as the newest member of the Lame Ladies.
Moving on. The real drama happened at the Valentine's Day event hosted by the other bar in town, Dana's. Suspiciously missing was Sawyer Clark and Jules O'Connor, most likely skipping the festivites to have their own personal Valentine's Day Celebration, maybe? Awfully close to Max's death day, don't you think?
The beginning of the event was a bore. The Lame Ladiest took over prime seating and the newest members of the Breakfast Club decided they were too cool for Dana's so they just chained smoked outside as if lung cancer treatment is readily available these days. I realize we are in the middle of an apocalypse but I would think Dana's would have better entertainment than a drunk Fletcher Knapp attempting to sing a seven minute meatload ballad with Eric Grffin singing backup. At least make them take off their shirts first.
Lola Vanderbilt, our favorite trainwreck, decided she would ditch her date, Saxon Clark almost immediately and interview other men about their sexual history. First up, Nico Farina, who answered those questions like the wet blanket we know he is. Thank god he has abs. Although putting your partner who woke up as a slug in a cage is never okay. Red flag if you ask me.
Mercy O'Connor took up all of Mr. Farina's attention after that. Which is bullshit if you ask me, but considering her dress only covered about 40% of her, I can't really blame the guy for sticking around for so long.
It only started getting spicy when Lola ditched her date once again to chase Roman Graves across the bar to be blocked by blonde titan Eliza Thorne. We all know the woman is old, Lola, no need to remind her. Although getting confirmation that Roman banged nineteen year Lola in the Outskirts . Roman and Eliza left almost immediately after that, probably so Roman could give Eliza no orgasms and below average sex.
Speaking of old, good 'ol girls Tess Dove and Penelope Langston spent the majority of the night getting drunk and talking about how they peaked in high school. I noticed a lot of body glitter being used...don't they know that isn't going to hide those fine lines and wrinkles?

There are as many startup potential opportunities as the human population, but a higher concentration seats in the educational institutions. The education space cannot be fully utilized as its dynamic and the fact that new entrants join the league every day. The world’s top educational tech companies have massively invested in innovation in the education sector, which makes a complete overhaul of critical aspects eminent. In this highly creative times, there are ten potentially rapturous innovations to keep an eye on. TOP HAT Formerly Top Hat Monocle, Top Hat uses mobile phone applications to classroom reaction tools. This has created a pool of virtual students that will soon overtake real students. Top Hat has affiliated itself with educational technology companies like Pearson and lecture capture platform Panopto in a bid to change the education world. A normal virtual student parts with $20 to enjoy the service but recently Top Hat launched a freemium account service applicable to classes having less than 30 students. LEARNIST This is one of the education startups that are likely to amaze the world. Both students and tutors are enabled to curate information from YouTube, google documents, websites, and blogs then map them on “Learnboards”. The fact that top companies, Discovery and BBC, have partnered with Grockit, we are waiting for the idea to rock the world. CURIOUS.COM This is an audiovisual based site targeting lifelong learners. There are other online video-based platforms available, but curious .com is distinguished by their interesting, informative, short and episodic videos. The fact that you have to pay a little for the services the cost is relatively low. The previous Apple chairman, Bill Campbell, is among the people who have significantly contributed to these startups. SMARTERCOOKIE Tess Brustein is the founder of the peer-coaching platform where teachers upload videos of their lessons, share them then receive comments from other teachers and students. Brustein directs that feedbacks expected should be direct and actionable GRADFLY After observing for a while that many students had interest in STEM fields but lacked a platform to showcase their developments, STEM fields, Oscar Pedroso found GradFly. Through this, students can connect with ed-tech startups sponsor companies and colleges. The University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Buffalo are some of the institutions keen on GradFly. TREEHOUSE This is startup offers comprehensive programming lessons that lift their students from unfamiliarity to job ready status. Some of the contents they teach are: building websites, mobile applications, and coding. Top ed-tech companies have also joined in to take it a notch higher; AOL, Disney, and Twitter are some of them. Students pay $25 per on a monthly basis for unlimited access to the service, but companies are free to enjoy a corporate pack. MERITFUL Meritful helps small organizations and business in recruiting college students. Students also have access to a platform where they can showcase their talent and potential as well as connect with their school alumni and other professionals. This earns students employment and connectivity. They are also challenged to start small businesses and grow them. Starting a business, however, needs diligence and discipline. Alternatively, CustomWriting.com can give you more insights on business startup tips. DUOLINGO Duolingo offers high-end foreign language learning services; it is believed that their teachings are more effective than those offered at the Universities. It also has a capacity to translate real-world web content to anyone’s local language. SIMINARS Media like PowerPoint, videos and web quizzes can be brought together courtesy of Siminars. This makes teaching as easy as ABC. This platform is capable of being used for academic content dissemination and professional training. GAMEDESK Gamedesk appears in the top 10 most inventive firms in education.
It was born out of a thorough research on games in schooling at the University of Southern California. Gamedesk has also received overwhelming support from top ed-tech companies and individuals. Conclusion It is crystal clear that the world is persistently in pursuit to change for the better; just imagine how will the world will be by 2050? There are more innovations across the globe such that if they were all to be chronicled, no book could accommodate. We are certain that the info provided in this article will help you make sober decisions on matters regarding the future and technology. Thank you for visiting us.

Campbell's Hoodie on Takin' Over The Asylum
This post owes its existence to @80smaniac, who asked recently about the iconic color-blocked hoodie David Tennant wore as Campbell on Takin' Over The Asylum. I reached out to David Blair, the director of the show, to ask him about whether he knew anything about the hoodie's origin story. He sent me the following reply:
The first thing to tell you is that although I've just noticed it says so on IMDB, James Keast was NOT the Costume Designer on the show. The only show we worked on together was Tess of the D’Ubervilles in 2008.
The Costume Designer on Takin’ Over The Asylum was Sally Pearson, who sadly passed away many years ago. What Sally and I discussed in pre-production was to find subtle elements in Campbell's garb that reflected his more manic episodes; slightly mis-matching of colours and so on. Having said that, the budget for the show was low, so I’d guess the hoodie would have been a purchase rather than being specially made.
Sorry I can’t be more specific but I hope this helps.
All the best,
David
-- I hope this answers some lingering questions for fans of Takin' Over The Asylum about the hoodie. And thanks once again to @80smaniac for asking the initial question! - I also want to let everyone know I likely won't be too active with responses for this post, as I've just learned my father has passed away. I'm okay - it's not unexpected, as I'm a few years away from 60 myself and my father was in his 80s. He passed peacefully, he had a good and long life, and I'm happy he didn't have to linger on in pain. It was a "good death", as he often told me he wished he'd be able to have. However, I'm the executor, so I will have to travel out of state and deal with all the matters which come with this. I don't know when I'll be back to writing a A Tennantcy To Act, but I hope there won't be too much of a break while I take care of family business.
Thank you all for your understanding.
Patti
Hello there! I just wanted to thank you personally for liking my analysis on Only Human. But I have a more pressing question that might be a bit silly to ask (or more likely to result in a dead end.)
In Takin' Over The Asylum, David is seen wearing that iconic colour-block hoodie. Many have remade the hoodie themselves almost to an exact match, and it got me wondering about the man, James Keast, who was responsible for the costume design for the series.
Unfortunately he passed in 2020 as records say online, but I'd like to know if this hoodie was actually handmade or if it was a part of David's personal wardrobe due to budget for the film series. (Costume designer for The House of Eliott(1991), Warriors(1999) and The Long Firm(2004).)
I have been scouring the internet with no luck, but see that you are a pretty good sleuth yourself. Though it might come up with absolutely nothing. I'm just really curious just like the other fans of the drama series, and many have been asking what has happened to it. I was wondering if you know anything more about Mr. Keats and if he ever mainly did handmade costumes or if he sourced from different companies/utilized actor's personal wardrobes at times when a budget was tight.
What a great question @80smaniac (and you're welcome re: Only Human)! It's not a question I can answer, because even though I do know a little about Mr. Keast, I know next to nothing about his work on Takin' Over The Asylum. So I did the only think I could think of doing: I reached out to ToTA's director, David Blair! If Mr. Blair is kind enough to answer me (and assuming he will even recall something of this nature) then I'll be sure to share it with you and the Tennant fandom at large!

This Is Us Season 6 Episode 17
Rebecca
Oh this is just sad.
Oh not her on a train in her mind!!
WILLIAM?!
Oh this is just depressing. Why do I love this show?
No Kate might not make it!
Nicky is hilarious. Do we draw really sad straws?
Beth is in dream train world? Makes sense. She’s the best. Oh she’s saying her goodbyes.
OH GOD THE TRAIN IS A METAPHOR FOR HER DEATH I’M SO SLOW (or maybe I just didn’t want to see it)
Jack better be at the end of this train.
OH THE KID VERSIONS ARE WITH THE ADULT VERSIONS THIS IS PRECIOUS
MIGUEL
Oh man she’s waiting for Kate.
Where’s Jack?
“This is quite sad isn’t it?” No shit Rebecca.
“If something makes you sad at the end, it must have been pretty good when it was happening.” Almost like “what is grief if not love everlasting?”
STOP IT WILLIAM! I’M ALREADY CRYING HARD ENOUGH
Where the hell is Jack on this train?
THERE HE IS
Randall and co
Beth said I’m getting my food, get out of my way.
Of course it’s Deja who comes to see him and check on him.
Randall will never be able to stay cool. Awe he’s so excited for her.
I love Beth. She knows all why do they pretend otherwise?
Randall no. You got this. Just relax. You’ll get it right. Y’all always do.
MALIK!
Kevin and co
I’m mad that Kevin hasn’t had a lot of time on screen.
I’ve always liked that painting.
Oh him and Randall are avoiding saying goodbye.
Kate and co
Oh Toby’s here!
THE KIDS ARE SO BIG NOW! I say as if I haven’t seen them as adults.
Where’s Kate? I know she isn’t dead cause she’s there when Jack is an adult.
Toby is hilarious. “You like me better than Philip right?”
Miscellaneous
Who are these random people? Oh God there’s going to be an accident and this boy is going to be seriously injured. What did I tell you?
Oh. He’s not so random after all. But who is he to the Pearson family? Is he Deja’s SO?
Marcus Brooks. Must remember that name.
This whole episode is so sad. I’ve been crying practically the whole time.
Y’all I’m bawling.
Wait so if Deja is with Malik, who’s this Marcus brooks person?
….why is the brooks kids dad with Jack?! OH GOD THIS IS THE NIGHT JACK DIED NO IM NOT READY FOR THIS
Oh my God he passed on the saying before he died. I can not. This show KILLS ME
Oh God they had the same doctor. What gets me is that Jack would’ve wanted it to happen that way. He would’ve wanted the kid to live even if it meant his death.
This episode is wrecking me.
I’m not ready for it to end. I’m not ready for next week.

now that this is us has been over for some time. I have some thoughts and my most important one is Annie Pearson deserved a proper storyline. She’s the only one of Randall’s daughters we really didn’t learn about.
